Buteaux named Southland Conference Athlete of the Week
PLANO, Texas - UTSA sophomore Brandon Buteaux (San Antonio, Texas/Churchill HS) has been named Southland Conference men's Athlete of the Week for his record-setting performance last weekend, the league office announced Tuesday.
Buteaux finished fourth overall and third among collegiate competitors in the heptathlon at the Boise State Multis last Friday and Saturday in Nampa, Idaho. He set a UTSA record with his NCAA provisional-qualifying total of 5,265 points. Buteaux posted individual season bests in all seven events - 60 meters (7.31), 1,000 meters (2:52.03), 60 meter hurdles (7.9 hand-timed), high jump (6-7 1/2), long jump (21-10 3/4), pole vault (13-7 3/4) and shot put (37-10 1/2) - en route to his record-setting performance.
The UTSA track and field teams will return to the track next Friday-Saturday, Feb. 20-21, at the Southland Conference Championships held at Bill Yeoman Field House in Houston.
