UTSA baseball travels to Waco for Tuesday meeting with No. 12 Baylor Complete Release
SAN ANTONIO - After winning two of three games at New Mexico State over the weekend, the UTSA baseball team travels to Waco, Texas, to take on the No. 12 Baylor Bears on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Baylor Ballpark. The ’Runners bounced back from a 13-12 loss Saturday to sweep Sunday’s double header, 9-7, 15-5. UTSA plays its fourth game on the road against Baylor to open the 2004 season. UTSA vs. Baylor Baylor leads the all-time series with UTSA by the count of 19-2. The teams met twice last year with the Bears winning both in Waco and San Antonio. The only two UTSA wins came in 1994 when the Roadrunners defeated the Bears 10-2 in San Antonio and 7-6 in Waco. UTSA is 0-6 against Baylor under head coach Sherman Corbett. Last Time Out 2/14-2/15 LAS CRUCES, N.M - In the opening game of the weekend series, UTSA dropped a close game, 13-12, to New Mexico State after erasing a 5-0 deficit. Ryan Crew put the Roadrunners on top 6-5 with his third RBI, of four total, in the top of the sixth. The Aggies answered with an eight-run eighth to move ahead 13-6,but the Roadrunners fought back. Chris Lewis hit his second home run of the game, a three-run shot, to spark a six-run ninth inning for the ’Runners as the rally fell a run shy. In the opening game of Sunday’s doubleheader the Roadrunners used a five-run ninth to pull of a 9-7 win against the Aggies, snapping a 46-game home non-conference winning streak for NMSU. Chad Kuck pitched three and third innings of relief for the ’Runners, allowing a hit, a run and no walks while striking out one for his first victory of the season. Michael McKennon’s two-out, two-run double in the top of the ninth completed the comeback for UTSA. Sam Mitchell led the Roadrunners’ 13-hit attack going 3-for-4 with four runs, five RBIs and two home runs as UTSA came away with a 15-5 run-rule decision over New Mexico State in the series finale. Klae Boehme pitched a complete game of seven innings allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out a career-high eight to earn the win. On Deck UTSA opens the 2004 home season with a three-game series against Army, Feb. 20-22. Games are slated for 7 p.m., 2 p.m. and noon, respectively, Fri.-Sun. at Stadium.
