UTSA baseball to open season at New Mexico State this weekend

SAN ANTONIO - The Roadrunners open the 2004 campaign with their first-ever visit to Las Cruces, N.M., and a three-game series with the
Aggies. Fourth-year head coach Sherman Corbett returns four starters and 13
lettermen from a squad that finished 29-27 a year ago and 12-15 in Southland Conference play to finish tied for sixth in the league standings. UTSA plays its first four games on the road this season including three at NMSU and one at Baylor.

UTSA vs.New Mexico State
UTSA leads the all-time series with NMSU by the count of 2-0.The teams met
for the first time last year in San Antonio with UTSA winning both affairs 3-1 and 8-4.

Last Time Out
The ’Runners ended the 2003 campaign with a 3-0 series sweep of SLC foe
Louisiana-Monroe, May 16-17. The Roadrunners defeated the Indians 2-1,15-7 and 9-8. The sweep put UTSA in sixth place and gave them a chance to advance to the SLC postseason tournament, however, they were edged out by eventual SLC tournament champion McNeese State.

At the Helm
Fourth year head coach Sherman Corbett is the third UTSA skipper in baseball history. With an overall record of 84-85 (.429), Corbett has posted more wins in his first three seasons than either coach before him.

A Look Back -1994
It was 10 years ago this season that the UTSA baseball team, a then third-year
program, captured the 1994 Southland Conference Tournament Championship
and advanced to its first and only NCAA Tournament appearance.

Keep ’em Coming
Winners of six of their last eight ball games in 2003, the Roadrunners look to
continue collecting W’s as they embark on the new season.

So Fresh and So Clean
After a packed roster of 12 seniors a year ago, the 2004 roster is filled with 22
freshmen and sophomores combined.

UTSA travels to Waco for a single game against Baylor, Tue., Feb.17, at 6 p.m., at Baylor Ballpark.
