Gilkes tabbed Southland Conference Athlete of the Week

PLANO, Texas - UTSA senior Letitia Gilkes (St. Michael, Barbados) has been named Southland Conference women's Athlete of the Week for her winning performance at the historic Millrose Games last Friday, the league office announced Tuesday.

Gilkes won the College Women's 1,000-yard run in 2:34.81 at New York City's famous Madisn Square Garden. She finished comfortably ahead of Duke's Shannon Rowbury, who crossed in 2:36.60. Fellow UTSA senior Leticia Cerna grabbed third in 2:37.14. It was the first appearance for either Roadrunner at one of the top indoor track and field meets in the world.

The UTSA women will return to the track next Friday-Saturday, Feb. 20-21, at the Southland Conference Championships held at Bill Yeoman Field House in Houston.
