| Feb. 7, 2004 UTSA run-rules Texas Tech, loses heartbreaker to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at Bobcat/Century Tel Softball Classic Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3, UTSA 2 SAN MARCOS, Texas - Senior Christy Brownlee (Galena Park, Texas) continued her hot hitting with a pair of home runs and three runs batted in and freshman Aimee Murray (Cypress, Texas) added two hits and two RBI to help propel UTSA to an 11-3 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday at Texas State’s Bobcat/Century Tel Softball Classic at Bobcat Field. The game was called after five innings by run rule. UTSA dropped the second game Saturday night to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-2, on a walk-off home run by the Islanders in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Roadrunners' record stands at 2-2 on the season. In the first game, Texas Tech jumped out on top early, scoring two runs in the top of the first and one more on a solo homer by Heather Parker in the top of the second. UTSA answered with one run in the bottom half of the second on Brownlee's first homer of the day and second of the season. The floodgates opened in the bottom of the third as the Roadrunners posted nine runs on six hits. Junior Krystal Gibson doubled home freshman Aimee Murray to start the scoring and junior Jennifer Davis followed with an RBI single that scored sophomore Jenny Garcia. After a sacrifice fly by Jessica Rogers, Brownlee sent her second longball of the evening over the right-center field fence to give UTSA a 6-3 lead. The onslaught wasn't over as the 'Runners added four more runs on a two-RBI double by Murray, who had left off the inning, and an RBI single by Garcia. Garcia rounded out the scoring by reaching home on an error. UTSA tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by sophomore Jessica Els. Tech was unable to avoid the run rule (eight runs after five innings) in the top of the fifth and the win was in the books. Freshman Ursula Mares picked up her second win of the season to improve to 2-1. In the nightcap, the Roadrunners picked up where they left off, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly from Brownlee. Brownlee added another RBI to her tournament total of seven with a run-scoring double in the top of the third. The Islanders got on the board in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead in half. Erica Armenta led off the bottom of the final frame. Michelle Petree reached on a fielder's choice that erased Armenta, and then with one out and Petree on first, Katie Evans sent a pitch just over the left-field wall to give the Islanders the come-from-behind win. Freshman Stevi Simpson started and pitched solidly, allowing just two hits over four innings of work. Mares took over in the fifth and picked up the loss to drop her record to 2-2. UTSA meets Tulsa at noon on Sunday to wrap up the tournament.
