Four Roadrunners selected to 2004 Preseason All-Southland Conference Softball Team

PLANO, Texas - Four UTSA Roadrunners have been selected to the 2004 Preseason All-Southland Conference Softball Team released by the conference office Wednesday. Senior Christy Brownlee, junior Krystal Gibson and sophomore Jessica Rogers were chosen to the first team, while junior Jennifer Davis was picked for the second team.

Brownlee (Galena Park, Texas), a three-time second-team all-conference shortstop, was tabbed as the first-team shortstop this year. As a junior, Brownlee hit .298 with 53 hits, including an SLC-best 15 home runs. She also drove in 30 runs and made 117 assists in the field.

Gibson (Spring, Texas) was a first-team all-SLC choice at first base in 2003 after leading the Roadrunners in hitting with a .379 batting average and 63 hits. She slugged 14 doubles and 11 home runs and drove in 24 runs.

Rogers (Grand Prairie, Texas) was one of the top freshman performers in the league last year, hitting .361 with 61 hits, 11 home runs and 30 RBI. She was a first-team honoree at third base in 2003 and is the preseason first-team pick at the hot corner this year.

Davis (Grand Prairie, Texas) rounds out UTSA's preseason selections as the second-team outfielder. She hit .309 with 42 hits, 11 home runs and 30 RBI last season, earning second-team all-SLC honors. 

UTSA, Texas State and Northwestern State all had a conference-best three first-team selections.

The Roadrunners were picked to finish seventh in the team race in both the head coaches and sports information directors polls. Texas State is the league favorite in both polls.
