Sammie Cole scores career-high 27 as UTSA pounds Texas-Tyler, 95-60

SAN ANTONIO - Senior Sammie Cole connected on seven 3-point field goals and scored a career-high 27 points in leading the UTSA Roadrunners to a 95-60 victory over the Texas-Tyler Patriots on Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center.

UTSA, which improved to 4-6, has won three of its last four games. The Roadrunners placed four in double figures as LeRoy Hurd scored 23 points, while Justin Harbert added 16, and Rapheal Posey, 12. Center Anthony Fuqua pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds while blocking six shots.

The Roadrunners never trailed in the game, forced five consecutive Texas-Tyler turnovers and led 9-0 as Hurd had five early points.

Behind 15 points apiece by Cole and Hurd, UTSA led 57-24 at halftime.

UTSA built the lead to as many as 40 points, 80-40, on a jump shot by Dwain Hall with 9:21 to play.

Texas-Tyler, which fell to 1-6, was led by Brandon Weasby with 20 points. The Patriots had 28 turnovers and connected on only 19 of 50 field goal attempts.

UTSA, which hit a season-high 14 3-point field goals, connected on 37 pf 76 field goal attempts (48.7%).

After the Christmas break, UTSA will return to action on Dec. 29 when they play New Mexico State in the first round of the Utah State Gossner Foods Classic in Logan, Utah. The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. (Central) and can be heard on the Roadrunner Radio Network (KSJL Radio 92.5 FM and 810 AM and goUTSA.com) beginning at 6 p.m.
