SAN ANTONIO - Leroy Hurd had his fourth double-double of the season with 33 points and 13 rebounds to help lead the UTSA Roadrunners to a 100-71 victory over the Sul Ross State Lobos on Monday night at the Convocation Center.
Hurd was joined in double figures by Sammie Cole, who added 18 points, while Anthony Fuqua connected on all eight of his field goal attempts and scored a career-high 17 points. UTSA improved to 3-5 with its second straight victory.
Sul Ross State fell to 4-4 and was led by Larry Morales with 19 points, while Sidney Hooper added 14.
UTSA, which never trailed in the game, scored the final nine points of the first half and led 49-35 at halftime behind 16 points by Hurd and 15 from Fuqua.
The Roadrunners opened the second half with a 27-14 run and led 79-49 on a three-point play Hurd with 7:42 to play.
UTSA led by as many as 34 points late in the game as the Roadrunners cruised to their second straight win.
"It felt good for everyone to play well and score this win," said Fuqua. "We want to get some momentum for the rest of the week with Texas A&M coming up on Thursday."
UTSA will host Texas A&M on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 8 p.m. in the Alamodome. The game will be broadcast by Fox Sports Southwest television and can be heard on goUTSA.com.
