SAN ANTONIO - UTSA head men's golf coach Chris Donielson announced Tuesday the signing of Nick Olivarri of San Antonio to a national letter of intent.
Olivarri, who attends Converse Judson High School, has made waves on the prep and junior golf circuits over the past several years. He won the 2003 San Antonio City High School Championship with rounds of 72 and 70 and took top honors at the 2003 Trans-American Junior Championship after carding a 69 and 71.
The All-City Super Team member qualified to represent the United States in the 2003 World Junior Golf Cup in St. Andrews, Scotland, and finished with a 2-1-0 record. Olivarri also was the runner-up at district (73-74) and at the American Junior Golf Association IRI Golf Group Junior at Oakridge in Garland, Texas, (70-78-69) earlier this year.
Olivarri won the district title in 2001 and the San Antonio City Junior Championship in 2000 (73-73-70-66). He also tied the single-round record in the Texas/Oklahoma Junior Golf Championship with a 64, finishing second (74-64-73-75) in 2000 after winning the event in 1999 (67-72-72-71).
"We feel extremely excited to add a player the caliber of Nick Olivarri to our program," Donielson said. "He has a very good resum? and has had a fantastic junior career so far. Adding another quality player from San Antonio is a huge boost for us, and we are as equally excited to have parents like Nick's be a part of our program."
