Roadrunners win three flight titles at UTSA Invitational

SAN ANTONIO - Junior Paula Erausquin (Salta, Argentina) won her singles flight title match and teamed with sophomore Barbara Mooney (LaPlata, Argentina) to capture a doubles crown, while freshman Tasja Fuhrig (Flensburg, Germany) added a singles win to highlight action for the UTSA women's tennis team Saturday at the UTSA Invitational. 

Erausquin and Mooney got past Tyler Junior College's Marissa Brown and Ina Wieding in the semifinal match, 9-7, before downing Texas State's Leja Sirola and Margaret Potyrala in the flight two finals, 8-5.

Erausquin came back to sweep through her singles flight two against Sirola in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.

Fuhrig grabbed UTSA's other flight title, winning her flight-three final against Wyoming's Yuliana Santi, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Junior Massiel Martinez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) scored a third-place victory in flight four, downing Julie Fife of Texas-Pan American in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Ana Paula Soto (Mexico City, Mexico) added a third-place win in flight six, bettering Jamie Doty of Tyler JC, 6-1, 6-3.

Fuhrig and Martinez joined cause to win the doubles flight one consolation final over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Felice Sanchez and Amanda Brahim, 7-3 (default).

In other action, Mooney lost her third-place match in the fifth flight to Megan Williams of Wyoming, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Nadezda Rossikhina (Volgograd, Russia) defaulted to Wyoming's Patricia Chien in the singles flight one final. Rossikhina and Soto reached the doubles flight three final with a semifinal win over Lauren Schmidt and Kelsey Gist of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 8-2, but fell to Texas State's Gillian Dirksen and Katie Felder in the final in a close battle, 9-8 (5).
