UTSA widens lead on Saturday at Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate

AUGUSTA, Ga. — UTSA shot a tournament-low 286 on Saturday to widen its lead to fourstrokes and four Roadrunners rank in the top 10 after two rounds of theInsperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate.

All five players improved on their first-round scoreby at least two strokes to produce the event's best round. After a 298 in Friday's opening 18 holes, UTSA's 584 leads the field with host Augusta State (588=299-289)and No. 31 Purdue (592=299-293) in second and third place, respectively.

Senior Shannon Jungman carded a one-under-par 71with birdies on Nos. 11, 16 and 17. Her 36-hole score of 144 (73-71) is goodfor a third-place tie and is just two strokes back of the top spot on theindividual leaderboard.

Meanwhile, sophomore Fabiola Arriaga shot birdies on Nos. 9 and 18 and was even-par on every other holeand she moved up seven spots into a tie for fifth after entering the day in a tie for12th.

Senior Summer Batiste fired four birdies, the most of anyRoadrunner on the day, to move up to eighth place with a 147 (75-72).

Sophomore Taylor Newlin is one shot behind her teammate at 148 (75-73) after recording three birdies and she will head into tomorrow's final round tied for ninth.

Junior Paola Valerio showed the greatestimprovement by knocking five shots off her previous round to move into a tiefor 21st. Valerio shot even-par on the front nine before a pair of birdies onthe back nine en route to a one-over-par 73.

Augusta State's Casey Kennedy shot a 69 to jump intofirst place with a 142 (73-69) and she leads Purdue's Paula Reto, who fired a tournament-best 68 on Saturday, by one shot.

The final 18 holes will be played on Sunday.
