NATCHITOCHES, La. — UTSA set a program record with its 11th consecutive sweep after rolling past Northwestern State by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-22 on Thursday night at Prather Coliseum. The victory surpassed the mark previously set by the 1987 club.

The Roadrunners (17-8, 11-0 SLC) turned to their defense to pick up the record-setting victory after holding the Lady Demons (8-16, 4-7 SLC) to a .092 hitting percentage while forcing 24 attack errors.

Senior Kelsey Jewasko led the defensive effort with 17 digs, while senior Elise Huskey chipped in with 10. The Birds' strong defensive play also happened at the net, as they recorded nine total blocks on the night.

Redshirt junior Kelsey Schwirtlich guided UTSA's offense to a .283 hitting percentage with 27 assists.

The Roadrunners opened the match strong with a quick 4-1 lead. However, Northwestern State battled back and took a 12-9 advantage. UTSA responded with back-to-back kills from sophomore McKenzie Adams and senior Elise Huskey to pull within one. After a Lady Demons attack error, Adams slammed home a winner to give the Birds the lead for good.

UTSA's defense took over in the second panel by limiting Northwestern State to a negative .022 hitting percentage and forcing 12 attack errors.

The Lady Demons jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Roadrunners soared back to tie the frame at four. Later in the set, Adams capped a 7-0 run with a kill that pushed UTSA's lead to 14-5. Northwestern State picked up back-to-back points to pull within seven, but the Birds responded with a 4-0 spurt to put the frame out of reach.

Junior Whitney Walls netted five winners in the third stanza to complete the sweep.

The final panel was closely contested with UTSA holding a 22-19 lead. Adams pushed the advantage to four after Schwirtlich set her up for a kill. Following a service error, the Lady Demons pulled within two with Stacey DiFrancesco's ninth winner of the match, but UTSA responded and Huskey slammed down the final point.

Kelly Jimenez led Northwestern State with a match-high 11 kills.

UTSA will continue its road trip at 1 p.m. on Saturday with matchup at East Division leader Central Arkansas (14-11, 8-3 SLC).
