HOUSTON — Junior Jessica Bitterly raced to a third-place performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and eight athletes recorded personal bests to highlight UTSA's night of action at Friday's Victor Lopez Classic.

Bitterly clocked an 11:16.54 in the nine-woman 3k steeple field and it was the fastest time in the Southland Conference this spring.

Meanwhile, senior Dana Mecke added a fourth-place effort in the 5k. Racing for the first time since the 2010 NCAA Championships Preliminary Rounds, the 2010 Southland Outdoor Athlete of the Year recorded a 17:22.58 in the first 5k of her decorated career. The mark currently sits atop the league standings.

The Roadrunners will return to action at a pair of meets next week. A majority of the team will compete at the Trinity Tigers Relays on Friday, March 30, while the remainder of the squad will head to Austin for the 85th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
