DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis sent UTSA to its third consecutive defeat with a 38-17 victory on Saturday at Aggie Stadium.
After the Roadrunners (2-5) took an early 3-0 lead on Sean Ianno's 28-yard field goal, the Aggies (2-4) reeled off 38 unanswered points to take command of the game.
UC Davis' scoring spree started when Randy Wright connected with Taylor Sloat for an 18-yard touchdown. Sean Kelley's 42-yard field goal with 5:54 left in the first half pushed the lead to seven and Colton Silveria ran the ball in from four yards out five minutes later to give the Aggies a 17-3 halftime lead.
Silveria added another 4-yard touchdown run with 8:29 remaining in the third quarter and Wright hooked up with Anthony Soto for a 46-yard score four-and-a-half minutes later to push the lead to 28.
Wright's third touchdown pass of the evening, this time for 21 yards to Tom Hemmingsen with 13:29 left in the game, ended the run.
Eric Soza, who was 22-of-31 for 257 yards, connected with Brandon Freeman (59 yards) and Kenny Harrison (13 yards) for scores early in the final quarter, but by then, it was too little, too late.
Wright completed 18-of-30 passes for 320 yards, while Silveria ran for 75 on 21 carries.
Freeman finished the game with five catches for 108 yards to lead the Roadrunners. It was the third week in a row that a UTSA receiver surpassed the century mark.
Meanwhile, Brandon Reeves racked up a game-high 11 tackles in his return to his home state.
UTSA returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 29, when it hosts Georgia State (1-5) at 12:30 p.m.
