FORT WORTH — Jazz Parker scored a game-high 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting and a 5-of-7 night from the free throw line to lead TCU to a 65-30 victory against UTSA on Monday.

Freshman Ashley Spaletta paced the Roadrunners (0-2) with 13 points on the strength of three 3-pointers. Fellow freshman Mannasha Bell helped UTSA outrebound the Horned Frogs, 50-42, with 11 boards.

Joining Parker in double-figures with 10 points was Latricia Lovings, who also led TCU (1-1) with seven rebounds.

After a slow start for both squads, the Horned Frogs took control with a 14-0 run and grabbed an 18-4 lead on Ashley Colbert’s layup with 6:16 to play in the half. Spaletta ended the run and nearly a 10-minute scoring drought with back-to-back 3-pointers, forcing TCU head coach Jeff Mittie to use a timeout.

UTSA closed the gap to seven twice with free throws from Spaletta and junior Lyndi Thorman, but the Horned Frogs held a 26-13 lead at halftime.

After a jumper by senior Ijeoma Waturuocha at the 18:13 mark of the second half, the TCU defense held the Roadrunners without a field goal until Spaletta’s final 3-pointer of the night with 6:01 to play. By then, the Horned Frogs led 51-23 and they cruised to the 35-point win.

UTSA grabbed 22 offensive rebounds, its best total since hauling in 23 last season against Sam Houston State (Jan. 8).

The Roadrunners will return to the Alamo City for a Friday matchup with Florida International (1-1). Tip is slated for 7 p.m.
