Roadrunners tie for seventh at Argent Financial Classic

CHOUDRANT, La. — Led by an even-par 72 from junior Taylor Koser, UTSA wrapped up the Argent Financial Classic in a tie for seventh place on Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club (par 72/7,105 yards).

Koser recorded a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par-five second hole in carding his season-best round. The Rice Lake, Wis., native finished in a tie for 35th place with a 226 (78-76-72), two shots shy of his season-best 54-hole tally posted at the Rice Intercollegiate.

Meanwhile, sophomore Ryan Werre turned in his fourth consecutive top-15 finish by tying for 15th place with a one-over 217 (72-73-72). He registered 11 birdies for the tournament and was the team’s top finisher for the fourth event in a row.

Redshirt freshman Martin Board tied for 32nd after tallying a 225 (76-72-77), while junior Stanton Tondre tied Koser for 35th with his 226 (76-75-75). Junior Mitchell Griffin tied for 49th at 236 (77-83-76).

The Roadrunners tied Missouri State for seventh after posting an 892 (301-296-295), which was seven strokes behind sixth-place UALR (885). No. 20 LSU won the team title with an 860 (292-284-284), followed by host Louisiana Tech (867), No. 46 Middle Tennessee (870), Jacksonville State (880) and Southern Mississippi (882).

UTSA returns to the course this weekend when they travel to Laredo to compete in the Border Olympics. The two-day event tees off on Friday.
