AUSTIN — UTSA dropped two more games on Saturday at the Texas Classic. The Roadrunners fell to Cal State Fullerton, 5-4, in the morning and then were defeated by No. 18 Texas in five innings, 8-0, later in the day. UTSA will play the Titans in Sunday's consolation game at 9 a.m.

Roadrunners fall to Cal State Fullerton, 5-4

AUSTIN — UTSA out-hit Cal State Fullerton, 12-9, but the Titans walked off with a 5-4 victory on Emily Vizcarra’s two-out RBI single in the seventh inning on Saturday at McCombs Field.

The Roadrunners fell to 0-3 on the season, while Cal State Fullerton improved to 2-1 behind Ashley Carter’s three RBIs.

UTSA struck first in the top of the second with a pair of runs off Titans starter Desiree Ybarra.

Junior Haylee Staton singled with one down and then moved to second when freshman Courtney Buchman was hit by a pitch. Senior Nikki Goff followed with an RBI single to left and she advanced to second when Staton beat the throw of left fielder Leesa Harris at home. Freshman Geena Garcia followed with a fielder’s choice that saw Buchman thrown out at home, which put runners on the corners with two outs. A throwing error on catcher Kirsten Lambertson allowed Goff to cross the plate for the early 2-0 lead.

However, Fullerton responded with a three-spot in the bottom of the frame thanks to a hit batter, passed ball, walk, error and a pair of singles.

UTSA tied the game in the third on an RBI single to center by senior Alaina Byars and reclaimed the lead on Garcia’s RBI base hit to left an inning later.

The Titans once again answered with a two-out RBI in the fourth before Vizcarra’s bases-loaded single scored pinch runner Lauren Mario for the winning run three panels later.

Staton started the game in the circle for the Roadrunners and allowed seven hits and a pair of earned runs while striking out four. Sophomore Katy Akins (0-1) was charged with the loss.

Aly Fascetti (1-1) pitched three innings in relief for the win.

The Roadrunners will begin bracket play at 4 p.m. against No. 18 Texas and the contest will be broadcast on Longhorn Network. The Longhorns handed UTSA a 15-0 setback on Friday night.

No. 18 Texas downs UTSA, 8-0

AUSTIN — UTSA held No. 18 Texas to just six hits, but a trio of errors and a home run by Karina Scott propelled the Longhorns to an 8-0 run-rule victory on Saturday at McCombs Field.

Kim Bruins (1-0) allowed just one hit and struck out three for the Longhorns (4-0), who have yet to allow a run this season. Junior Haylee Staton provided the lone hit for the Roadrunners (0-4).

A pair of walks and an error loaded the bases for Texas in the bottom of the second. Scott picked up her first RBI of the contest with another walk and Taylor Hoagland pushed the lead to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly to right.

The Longhorns added two runs in the third, three runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth for the run-rule victory.

Senior Morgan Luksa (0-2) allowed just two hits, but she issued five walks and surrendered three earned runs for her second loss of the campaign.

The Roadrunners will conclude play at 9 a.m. Sunday against Cal State Fullerton (2-2).
