SAN ANTONIO — No. 45 Portland won the opening doubles point, but 67th-ranked UTSA stormed back to sweep all six singles contests en route to a 6-1 victory on Sunday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners (5-6) handed the Pilots (7-1) their first loss and knocked off their second ranked opponent of the spring.
"It was huge for us to come from behind after dropping the doubles point," second-year head coach Jeff Kader said. "It was encouraging to see how the guys responded in singles play. We had a strong showing in all of the singles matches and the guys were fired up."
Junior Tyler Brown provided the clinching point following his straight-sets triumph against Alex Ferrero at second singles.
Junior Martin Ayala, freshmen Joel Rubio and David Kelleher and senior Daniel Moser also netted straight-sets wins at Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
Meanwhile, sophomore Yannick Junger staved off a late push from Stefan Micov to win in three sets at the top spot.
UTSA will return to the courts on Tuesday, March 6, when it hosts Middle Tennessee at 2:30 p.m.
