SAN ANTONIO — No. 28 Sam Houston State plated runs in each of the final five frames and the Bearkats completed a weekend sweep of UTSA by a score of 15-1 on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field. The game was called after seven innings due to the Southland Conference's run rule.

The Roadrunners (11-17, 3-9 SLC) tied the game at one in the third, but Sam Houston State (19-9, 10-2 SLC) plated the final 14 runs of the day and outscored UTSA, 40-9, in the three-game series.

The Bearkats registered 17 hits, including five for extra bases, and John Hale, Ryan O'Hearn and Luke Plucheck all collected three knocks, while Anthony Azar went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Justin Jackson (5-2) held UTSA to one run on six hits, walked two and struck out one.

Sam Houston State broke through against Roadrunners freshman starter Justin Anderson in the third inning.

After Jessie Plumlee drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on Hale's foul flyout, Corey Toups produced a run-scoring single to left.

The Birds answered in the bottom half of the frame with their only run on senior Matthew James' sacrifice fly.

An inning later, the Bearkats scored six times to put the game out of reach. They then added three more tallies in the fifth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Anderson (1-1) surrendered seven runs on eight hits and walked a pair.

UTSA will travel to No. 6 Texas A&M (21-6) on Tuesday, April 3. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
