AUSTIN — No. 72 UTSA dropped a non-conference match to 11th-ranked Texas, 6-1, on Saturday night at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The Longhorns (10-3) swept the doubles session to claim the opening point and then went on to take five of the half dozen singles tilts.
Sudanwa Sitaram defeated junior Tyler Brown in straight sets at the No. 2 spot to give Texas a 2-0 lead.
UTSA (3-6) picked up its lone point of the night when sophomore Yannick Junger knocked off No. 69 Daniel Whitehead in three sets (5-7, 6-0, 6-3) at the top position.
However, Texas held off the Roadrunners in the final four singles tilts, all in three sets, to clinch the victory.
UTSA returns to the court on Friday, March 2, in a Southland Conference contest against Texas-Pan American. It will the first of four consecutive home matches for the Birds.
