BOISE, Idaho — Kari Gutierrez shut out UTSA on just four hits and New Mexico saw Chelsea Anaya and Jessica Garcia hit home runs in an 8-0 victory on Sunday in the Roadrunners’ final game of the SpringHill Suites Invitational.
Senior Nikki Goff went 1-for-3 for UTSA (11-18) to cap an 8-for-15 (.533) weekend that included two doubles and a homer for the Leander native.
The Lobos (21-6) jumped ahead in the opening inning when Garcia delivered her seventh long ball of the season with a runner on and two down.
Jessica Lujan-Dresslar added a run-scoring single in the fourth before Anaya pushed the lead to 6-0 a frame later with a three-run blast to right.
New Mexico tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh to remain unbeaten in the tournament.
Junior Haylee Staton (7-5) allowed five runs on three hits in three innings, while Gutierrez improved to 4-1 on the year.
UTSA will be back in action on Friday, March 30, when it hosts Northwestern State (12-18, 1-3 SLC) at Roadrunner Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
