LAKE CHARLES, La. — Tiffany Denham threw a three-hit shutout to lead McNeese State to a 7-0 victory against UTSA on Saturday at Cowgirl Diamond.
The Cowgirls (17-8, 2-0 SLC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead afterthree innings with just one hit. McNeese State got a run in the first thanks toan error, a pair of walks and a wild pitch before plating two runs on a hit and two more errors in the third.
The Roadrunners struggled to put hits together, and after leaving thebases loaded in the top of the first, they did not threaten again.
The run support was plenty for Denham (6-2), who saw the leadgrow to 7-0 after a run in the fifth and three more the following inning. The Southland Conference'sERA leader notched two strikeouts.
Senior Caitlyn Ivy doubled, while sophomore Siera Sprouland freshman Courtney Buchman recorded singles for UTSA (10-14, 1-3 SLC).
Junior Alyssa Vordenbaum (2-6) surrendered threeunearned runs in her two innings of work.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Tuesday, March 20, whenthey travel to Houston for a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Texas Southern.
