Jungman, UTSA maintain leads at Southland Conference Championship

BLANCO — Senior Shannon Jungman maintained her individual lead with a one-over-par 73 on Tuesday and UTSA now holds a two-shot advantage over Texas State after 36 holes of play at the Southland Conference Championship, which is being played at Vaaler Creek Golf Club (par 72/5,994 yards).

Jungman, who opened the three-day tournament with a two-under 70 on Monday, leads Central Arkansas’ Malin Senneryd by one shot with 18 holes left to play. Her second round included three birdies, which gives her nine for the tournament.

Meanwhile, UTSA saw its 11-shot lead trimmed down to two by the Bobcats. The defending champion Roadrunners shot an 18-over 306, while Texas State fired a nine-over 297 for the day. Central Arkansas (612), Lamar (617), Sam Houston State (619), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (633), McNeese State (664), and Stephen F. Austin (669) round out the team standings.

Sophomore Fabiola Arriaga knocked in three birdies en route to a four-over 76 and she remains in third place in the individual standings at three-over 147.

Classmate Taylor Newlin shot a 10-over 82, but she still is tied for 11th at 10-over 154.

Meanwhile, junior Paola Valerio fired a 79 and is tied for 16th (156) and senior Summer Batiste carded a 78 and is tied for 22nd (159).

Wednesday's final round will tee off at 8 a.m.
