HOUSTON — Junior Katie Bragg earned a gold medal in the weight throw to lead the UTSA women's track & field team at Friday's season-opening Leonard Hilton Memorial.

Bragg tossed the implement 55-5 ¾ (16.91m) to top the 20-women field. The Peachtree City, Ga., native outdistanced Houston's Emily Nnokwam by nine inches to win the title after finishing second the last two years. Senior Taelor Wilson posted the Roadrunners' only other top-three finish of the day after recording a career-best throw of 54-3 ¾ (16.55m).

The Roadrunners also received fourth-place performances from a pair of freshmen.

Meanwhile, Chiugo Okonkwo clocked a 26.28 in the deuce.

UTSA returns to action next weekend at the Texas Tech Invitational. The two-day meet gets underway on Friday, Jan. 20, in Lubbock.
