Batiste leads UTSA during second day of UCF Challenge

SORRENTO, Fla. — Senior Summer Batiste shot a pair of birdies en route to an even-par 72 on Monday and UTSA moved into 12th place after the second round of the UCF Challenge.

Starting on hole No. 10, Batiste quickly fell to two-over with back-to-back bogeys before birds on No. 16 and 17. The Spring native improved by three strokes from Sunday's opening 18 holes and climbed into a tie for 29th place (147=75-72) on the individual leaderboard.

Meanwhile, sophomore Fabiola Arriaga matched her first-round total of 74. Her lone birdie came on No. 4 and she sits in a tie for 39th (148=74-74).

Senior Shannon Jungman and junior Paola Valerio each carded rounds of 77 and sit in 61st and 76th, respectively. Jungman fired two birdies and owns a two-day total of 152 (75-77), while Valerio also collected a pair for a 155 (78-77).

The Roadrunners (599=299-300) are just one stroke behind No. 15 Texas and two strokes out of the top 10.

No. 3 Auburn (285-284) and No. 20 Baylor (284-285) share the event’s top spot at 569, while the Lady Bears’ Haley Davis is atop the individual leaderboard with a 139 (68-71) heading into Tuesday’s final round.
