SAN ANTONIO  Sophomore Fabiola Arriaga fired a three-under-par 69 on Sunday to pace UTSA at the opening day of The Alamo Invitational, which is being played at Briggs Ranch Golf Course.

Arriaga shot the best round of her collegiate career on the strength of birdies on Nos. 2, 7 and 8. The Torreon, Mexico, native shares the lead with Central Florida’s Monifa Sealy, who carded five birdies and a pair of bogeys during the first round of play.

Her scorecard helped the Roadrunners shoot a 293 and they sit in a third-place tie in the team standings with No. 23 Baylor.

Defending champion TCU leads the field following its opening-round 288 and Kentucky is two strokes back in second place.

Senior Shannon Jungman also recorded three birdies en route to a 73, which has her in a tie for 18th place. Not far behind is fellow senior Summer Batiste, who shot a 75, while junior Paola Valerio and sophomore Taylor Newlin each fired rounds of 76 on a picture-perfect day in the Alamo City.

Sophomore Chelsea Bretcher turned in a one-over-par 73 on the strength of a team-best five birdies and senior Bruna Spengler shot an 80. Both are playing this week's tournament as individuals.

The three-day event continues at 8:30 a.m. on Monday.
