UTSA soars past UTEP on Sunday, 4-1

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA rebounded after dropping the doubles point and the Roadrunners rolled to a 4-1 home victory against UTEP on Sunday.

UTSA (4-1) dropped two of the three doubles matchups, which gave the Miners (1-8) an early lead.

Sophomore Isabelle Jonsson quickly tied the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win against Rebeca Calvillo at No. 2 singles.

Junior Natalie Hand and freshman Irene Gandara Gonzalez finished in straight sets shortly thereafter at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, giving UTSA an insurmountable 3-1 advantage.

Senior Micaela Silva then clinched the match with a 7-5, 7-5 triumph against Gabi Vazquez at the third spot.

UTSA will travel to Birmingham, Ala., next weekend for matches with Jacksonville State, Samford and UAB.
