CONWAY, Ark. — Senior Stefanie Peana rallied from a one-set deficit to provide the clinching point and UTSA topped Central Arkansas in its Southland Conference opener by a score of 4-3 on Saturday at the UCA Tennis Complex.
Peana dropped the opening frame, 6-0, before bouncing back to win the next two by identical 6-4 scores.
The Roadrunners (6-3, 1-0 SLC) fell behind after the Sugar Bears (5-6, 0-4 SLC) swept all three doubles tilts.
UTSA then won three of the first five singles matches to set up Peana's come-from-behind, match-clinching victory.
Sophomore Isabelle Jonsson also dropped the opening panel, but she rebounded to win the next two, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 2 position, while junior Kavyan Menon and freshman Irene Gandara Gonzalez both netted straight-set wins at Nos. 4 and 6 singles.
The Roadrunners return to the courts at 11 a.m. on Sunday at Northwestern State.
