MONTGOMERY — After winning the Texas Golf Association Public Links stroke play round on Thursday, junior Stanton Tondre reached the quarterfinals of the match play portion before bowing out on Saturday at Woodforest Golf Club (par 71/6,953 yards).

The Medina Valley High product fired a three-under-par 68 to earn the top seed for the 32-player match play field, which began on Friday.

He defeated Casey Wharton, 4 and 3, in the opening round and then posted a convincing 8-and-7 victory against Jonathan Marek in the round of 16, also on Friday. In the first match of Saturday’s quarterfinals, Tondre was edged by Calvin Clyde V, 2 and 1.

Clyde V eventually advanced to the final, where he fell to No. 2 seed Michael Smith, 5 and 3.
