Tondre leads UTSA on day two of Lone Star Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — Junior transfer Stanton Tondre fired a one-under-par 71 on Monday and UTSA is in 11th place after 36 holes of the third annual Lone Star Invitational.

Tondre followed his opening-round 72 with a season-best effort, as he used birdies on Nos. 4, 16 and 18 to offset back-to-back bogeys on nine and 10. The Medina Valley High product is tied for 15th in the individual standings with his one-under 143, 10 shots off the pace set by Houston’s Roman Robledo.

Meanwhile, the Roadrunners carded a season-best round of three-over 291 and are sitting in 11th at seven-over 583 with 18 holes to play. UTSA is neck-and-neck with Weber State (582), Sam Houston State (581) and UT Arlington (580) and is one shot ahead of Rice (584).

No. 16 New Mexico continues to lead at 16-under 560 after recording a two-under 286 in the second round, while Texas A&M made a huge move into second (564) with a 12-under 276. North Texas is third (567).

Sophomore Ryan Werre fired an even-par 72 and is tied for 28th at two-over 146. Redshirt freshman Martin Board is one shot back in a tie for 43rd (147) after turning in a one-over 73. Juniors Nicko Dodd and Mitchell Griffin round out the UTSA lineup in ties for 51st (148) and 61st (150), respectively.

Competing as individuals, freshman Reed Stegall carded a one-under 71 and is tied for 69th (152), while sophomore Eddie DeVane and junior Taylor Koser are tied for 74th (153) and 81st (162), respectively.

The third and final round tees off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
