SAN ANTONIO — Sophomore Blake Denman's pitching performance in the nightcap propelled UTSA to a doubleheader split with New Mexico on Saturday at the Bird Bath. The Roadrunners (4-3) won the nightcap, 3-2, after dropping the opener, 14-7.

Sophomore Riley Good collected a team-high five hits in the two games, while sophomores Mike Warren and John Welborn each tallied four knocks. Warren also drove in a pair of runs.

Denman (1-0) scattered six hits and struck out three in his seven innings. Sophomore Matt Sims came fanned a pair in two scoreless innings to pick up his first career save.

The Roadrunners took a lead in the first inning after Rockett singled up the middle to drive in freshman Horacio Correa III.

New Mexico (2-4) tied the game on DJ Peterson's solo home run in the fourth, and a frame later, it took a 2-1 advantage with the help of three UTSA errors.

However, the Birds answered with a pair of runs in the sixth, including an RBI single by junior Ryan Dalton, to reclaim the advantage for good.

Sam Wolff (0-1) took the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits and four walks in 5.2 innings. He also struck out five.

New Mexico used a quartet of big innings to claim the day's lid-lifter.

The Lobos plated three in the first, four in the third, two in the fourth and five more in the fifth to put the contest out of reach.

Peterson had three hits, including first-inning solo homer, to lead the charge.

Meanwhile, Warren and Welborn each tallied four hits for UTSA.

Rudy Jaramillo (1-0) went six innings, allowing five runs on 13 hits with three punchouts. Brandon Ward-Hersee gave up two runs over the final three innings to earn the save.

Junior Clint Sharp (0-2) was saddled with the loss after giving up nine runs (seven earned) on 12 hits in just 3.2 frames of work.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
