SAN ANTONIO — Notre Dame scored four runs in the second and six more one frame later and the Fighting Irish cruised to a 12-0 victory at UTSA in front of 1,137 fans on Wednesday night at Wolff Stadium.

Three Notre Dame pitchers held the Roadrunners (9-8) to six hits in the combined shutout.

Patrick Veerkamp (1-0) allowed just four hits while striking out four in six frames of work.

After jumping out to the early 10-0 advantage, the Fighting Irish (8-5) tacked on single runs in both the sixth and seventh to cap the scoring.

UTSA had chances to score in the contest, but it left runners in scoring position in six separate frames.

The Roadrunners' best chance to spoil the shutout came in the fourth when junior Daniel Rockett led off the panel with a single and sophomore Mike Warren produced a pinch-hit double with one out. However, Veerkamp quelled the rally by striking out the next two hitters.

Freshman Jordan Pacheco (0-1) surrendered six runs (four earned) on five hits in two-plus innings of work in the first start of his career.

UTSA continues its home stand this weekend when Northwestern State (5-11, 2-1 SLC) comes to the Bird Bath.
