SAN ANTONIO — No. 72 UTSA rolled to a 6-1 home victory against St. Edward's on Friday.
The Roadrunners (3-5) took the lead early when they swept the doubles session, including an 8-4 win by senior Pedro Zanotelli and sophomore Yannick Junger at the top spot.
UTSA then capitalized on the momentum and defeated the Hilltoppers (4-1) in five of the six singles contests.
Seniors Martin Ayala and Daniel Moser, sophomore Oliver Breininger and freshman Joel Rubio all won in straight sets to give the Birds a commanding 5-0 advantage.
Junior Tyler Brown rounded out the scoring for UTSA by outlasting Ed Bencke in three sets at the second position.
Meanwhile, St. Edward's picked up its lone point after Ned Boone rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) victory over Junger at the No. 1 singles spot.
The Roadrunners will travel to No. 11 Texas for a 6 p.m. on Saturday. The match will be televised by the Longhorn Network.
