No. 71 Middle Tennessee edges 58th-ranked UTSA on Tuesday, 4-3

SAN ANTONIO — No. 71 Middle Tennessee claimed the doubles point early and carried the momentum into singles play en route to a 4-3 victory at 58th-ranked UTSA on Tuesday.

The Roadrunners (5-7) were unable to pull even with the Blue Raiders (6-5) after dropping the contest's initial point.

Middle Tennessee held a 3-2 advantage when Ettore Zito topped freshman Joel Rubio, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), at No. 4 singles to clinch the victory.

Sophomore Yannick Junger won his fourth consecutive singles tilt after posting a 6-3, 6-4 win against Ben Davis at the top spot. The Stuttgart, Germany, native and senior Pedro Zanotelli teamed up at first doubles to claim a 9-7 decision for the Birds' only win in the opening session.

Meanwhile, freshman David Kelleher and senior Daniel Moser each netted straight-sets victories at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, to round out the scoring for the Roadrunners.

UTSA continues its five-match home stand on Friday when Prairie View A&M comes to town for a 2 p.m. matchup.
