CORPUS CHRISTI — Daniel Minor tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out a career-high 14 in leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 1-0 victory against UTSA on Sunday afternoon at Chapman Field.

Minor (3-1) walked just one hitter in the 139-pitch (93 strikes) gem, as the Islanders (9-8, 2-1 SLC) took the Southland Conference-opening series for both teams.

Meanwhile, sophomore Michael Kraft (2-2) allowed just one run on five singles and fanned four in his seven-plus innings of work. The San Antonio native, who threw first-pitch strikes to 14 of the 26 batters he faced, retired seven consecutive Islanders before issuing a free pass to Santiago Ruiz to start the eighth.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scored the contest's lone run in the fourth.

Eric Weiss drew a one-out walk and moved to third on a hit-and-run single by Kyle Danford. Brad Porras then followed with a run-scoring ground out.

UTSA (9-6, 1-2 SLC) had its chances, but it left runners in scoring position in four separate panels, including the bases loaded in the fourth. Minor also stranded a runner at second base in the final frame to preserve the shutout.

Junior Daniel Rockett went 2-for-4 and stole a base for the Roadrunners.

UTSA begins a five-game home stand on Tuesday when it hosts TCU (5-6) at Wolff Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
