SAN ANTONIO — UTSA stranded a total of 20 baserunners and Louisiana-Monroe took advantage in a 7-3, 7-2 doubleheader sweep on Sunday at Roadrunner Field.
Junior Daniel Rockett and freshman Horacio Correa III led UTSA (1-2) offensively, as each picked up three hits on the day.
The Warhawks (2-1) received a pair of strong starts from right-handers Alex Hermeling and Cale Wine to complete the sweep.
Hermeling (1-0) was the beneficiary of an early 5-0 cushion in the opener.
The Roadrunners pulled to within three runs in the bottom of the fourth following an RBI double from senior Colby Braddock and a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore RJ Perucki.
However, ULM scored a run in both the sixth in seventh innings to put the game out of reach.
Senior Casey Selsor produced a run-scoring single in the bottom half of the frame, but it was not enough.
Kendall Thamm gave up three hits and one run while striking out four over the final three frames to earn his first save of the spring. Meanwhile, Hermeling scattered five hits, walked two and allowed just a pair of runs.
Sophomore Clint Sharp (0-1) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) on three hits over four innings. He issued two walks and fanned five.
Joey Rapp and Logan Fiasco both connected for two-run home runs off sophomore Michael Kraft in the first two innings of the nightcap to give the Warhawks a 4-0 advantage.
ULM tacked on another run in the fifth on Corben Green's run-scoring single.
The Roadrunners pushed two runs across the plate in the seventh, as both Correa III and sophomore Riley Good notched RBI singles.
The Warhawks added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth on Brandon Alexander's bloop single to left.
Wine (1-0) limited UTSA to two unearned runs on five hits in his 6.2 innings.
Meanwhile, Kraft (0-1) took the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) on five hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts over five innings of work.
UTSA will travel to Houston Baptist (1-1) on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. contest at Husky Field.
