HOUSTON — UTSA was dealt its first loss of the season on Sunday when Houston swept the Roadrunners, 7-0, at John E. Hoff Courts.
The Cougars (3-2), who won their third straight match, set the tone early with a sweep in the doubles session to grab the opening point.
Houston kept the momentum going in singles play by posting straight-set victories in five of the contests.
After taking a 3-0 lead, the Cougars clinched the match when Dionne Sanders earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory against junior Vivian Carrillo at the No. 6 slot.
Sophomore Isabelle Jonsson was the only Roadrunner to push her match to three sets. The Eskilstuna, Sweden, native won the second panel against Bryony Hunter, 4-6, to force a deciding frame. However, Hunter rallied to take a 10-6 win in the final set to complete the sweep.
UTSA (3-1) will host St. Edward's at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17 at the UTSA Tennis Courts.
