CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas built a big lead through five innings on Friday night and it was too much for UTSA to overcome, as the Bears posted an 8-4 victory in the opening game of this weekend's Southland Conference series.

The Roadrunners (18-24, 7-15 SLC) were unable to figure out Central Arkansas (17-21, 11-11 SLC) starting pitcher Jeffery Enloe until late in the contest.

Enloe (4-5) allowed four runs on five hits, walked four and struck out nine in his 7.1 innings of work.

The left-hander was backed by a 13-hit attack, which included three hits apiece from Jonathan Davis and Garrett Brown. The duo each added a pair of RBIs, while Bryan Willson was 1-for-4 with a solo home run, which was his third of the spring.

After UTSA took a 1-0 lead on sophomore Mike Warren's RBI triple in the second, Central Arkansas answered with five runs in its next three times at bat to take command of the contest.

The Birds cut the advantage to three in the sixth when sophomore RJ Perucki laced a run-scoring triple down the right-field line.

However, the Bears answered a frame later with a pair of tallies off junior right-handed reliever Clint Sharp.

The Roadrunners got both of those runs back in the top of the eighth on junior Daniel Rockett's RBI groundout and Warren's run-scoring single to right.

UCA pushed the lead back to four in the bottom of the panel when Ethan Harris produced an RBI single to cap the scoring.

Senior left-hander Casey Selsor (3-6) surrendered five runs on seven hits and four walks in 4.2 stanzas. The San Antonio native struck out five.

Warren finished the contest 2-for-2 with a triple and a pair of RBIs.

The series will continue at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
