KAPALUA, Hawai`i — Sophomore Fabiola Arriaga shot a 148 (74-74) to tie foreighth and she led UTSA to seventh place in the team standings with a 610 (308-302) after 36holes at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic.
Arriaga started the day strong with three birdies on herfirst seven holes and finished the opening round with a two-over-par 74. TheTorreon, Mexico, native followed that with a birdie on No. 15 in the next round for another 74.
Senior Shannon Jungman, who like Arriagabirdied three holes in the first round and one in the second for a 150 (76-74), is tied for 16th place after two rounds of play.
Junior Paola Valerio opened the day with a 79, but she birdiedNos. 7 and 15 in her second round for a 76. The Mexico City native sits in a 33rd-place tie with a 36-hole score of 155.
Sophomore Taylor Newlin also improved onher first round score and is tied for 45th with a 159 (81-78), while seniorSummer Batiste is tied for 63rd with a 166 (79-87).
The Roadrunners trail No. 19 Pepperdine (298-307) andOregon State (305-300), who both carded scores of 605 to tie for fifth. No. 14Colorado owns the top spot on the team leaderboard with a 588 (299-289),followed by No. 15 Cal (591=295-296), No. 13 Tennessee (592=299-293) andMississippi (594=300-294). Cal's Daniela Holmqvist fired a six-under-par 138 (68-70)and she leads the field by three shots heading into Tuesday's final round, which will tee off at 1 p.m. (CT).
