SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Roadrunners defeat Abilene Christian 6-1 on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the UTSA Tennis Center to mark Head Coach Ki Kroll’s best start to a season.
With the win the Roadrunners have their best start to a season in recent history. UTSA has now outscored their opponents by a combined score of 34-4.
UTSA will take on Sam Houston in Huntsville, Texas on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
Match 7
The Roadrunners started the match with a duo of Valeria Sanchez and Ekua Youri taking down Alice Klinteby and Masha Vrsalovic 6-1. To wrap up doubles and give the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead a tandem of Arina Babenko and Letizia Corsini defeated their opponents 7-5.
Kicking off singles play, Babenko took down her opponent at No. 5 6-1, 6-2 for her sixth singles win of the season, putting UTSA up 2-0. Corsini finished not long after Babenko defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. On court two, Youri earned her fifth win of the season, beating Vrsalovic 6-2, 6-4 to give UTSA a 4-0 lead.
Aoka Nagasawa beat Jess Board of ACU 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 to extend the Roadrunners’ lead to 5-0; this was Nagasawa’s second singles win of the year. ACU won on court three to shorten UTSA’s lead to 5-1. To wrap up the match, Sanchez took down her opponent 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 to give the Roadrunners a 6-1 win.
