SAN ANTONIO – Following back-to-back successes for the UTSA women’s tennis team, the Roadrunners will head to the middle of the Lone Star State for the Wildcat Invitational. The tournament will run Friday to Sunday at Abilene Christian’s John T.L. Jones Tennis Complex. The Roadrunners will take on players from ACU, Texas Tech, SMU, Texas State, UTEP, New Mexico State and Tarleton, comprising a field of 45 singles players and nearly 20 doubles teams.
The Wildcat Invitational will begin each day with singles matches at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Doubles matches are expected to begin start at 2 p.m.
UTSA started opening weekend in Corpus Christi with sophomore Ekua Youri leading an 8-3 UTSA singles record as the Singles A champion, and also the Doubles A championship alongside junior Arina Babenko. Last week, UTSA squared up with high-level competition from numerous power programs and freshman Valeria Sanchez won her flight at the H-E-B Invitational in Waco, while Babenko and Youri both earned multiple singles wins. The team went 3-3 in doubles while testing out different partner pairings.
Up Next: The Roadrunners catch a break from competition to continue building on the practice court in the leadup to the ITA Texas Regional Championship, scheduled for Oct. 10-14 in Fort Worth at TCU’s Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
