DENTON, Texas — The No. 70 UTSA women’s tennis team registered a pair of neutral-site victories on Sunday, sweeping Tyler Junior College, 7-0, and downing Cowley College, 4-1, at North Texas’ Waranch Tennis Complex.
With the two wins, the Roadrunners ran their record to 9-3 on the season, marking the best 12-match start since 2007.
UTSA will return to the courts at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, with a road match against UT Arlington.
Match 1: #70 UTSA 7, Tyler JC 0
UTSA notched its second 7-0 sweep of the season in the first match of the day, a shutout of Tyler JC.
The Roadrunners came out on top in all three doubles matchups to earn a 1-0 lead out of the gates. Fatima Gutierrez and Cassie McLay teamed up to top the Apaches’ tandem of Candy Wai and Natalia Michta,6-3, at the No. 1 spot. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Vittoria Baccino posted a 6-3 win over Stephanie Gopar and Beyza Yaniklar on the third court to clinch the point, while Ekua Youri and Magda Tuells defeated Amelia Devlin and Zoi Spyrou, 7-6 (7), in the middle of the doubles lineup.
In singles competition, Baccino made quick work of Devlin on court four with a 6-1, 6-0 sweep to push the lead to 2-0. Eva Beyebach posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Stephanie Gopar at the sixth position and Milica Milosavljevic secured the match with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Yaniklar at No. 5.
For good measure, Gutierrez downed Zoi Spyrou in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1, at the top of the lineup, McLay scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over Candy Wai at No. 3 and Zlatarova defeated Michta, 7-5, 7-6 (7), on court two to finish off the shutout.

The Roadrunners completed the twinbill sweep with a 4-1 decision over Cowley College later in the day.
UTSA’s doubles crew staked the Roadrunners to a 1-0 lead with a pair of victories. Youri and Tuells registered a 6-2 win against Akari Tomoyose and Roselida Asumwa at No. 2, while Baccino and Zlatarova combined to down Mariana Jimenez and Serena Pereyra, 6-3, at the third spot.
The Roadrunners collected three singles victories to clinch the match. Youri swept Asumwa, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5, Zlatarova beat Pereyra, 7-6, 6-0, on the second court and Baccino outlasted Akari Tomoyose, 6-4, 7-6 (5) at the fourth position.
