SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis team had their four-match winning streak snapped by Tarleton State, falling to the Texans by 4-3 on Friday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners fell behind early after the Texans won the doubles point with wins at the first and third court. Aleksandra Zlatarova and Fatima Gutierrez fell to Tarleton's Martha Makantasi/Elsa Boissonby a score of 6-3 at the top spot. Then, Alexandra Weir and Adeliya Mukhutdinova fell to Emma Persson and Celia Vaudiau at the third court, 6-1, for the Texans to secure the doubles point.
Zlatarova won her match at the top spot to make the score 1-1, defeating Makantasi of Tarleton in two sets, 6-0 and 6-3. At the sixth spot, Beyebach fell to Ximenes Morales by set scores of 6-0 and 6-1, giving the Texans a 2-1 advantage. Gutierrez fell to Tarleton's Celia Vaudiau at the fourth spot by set scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Weir battled through three sets with Persson at the No. 2 court, but ultimately fell by 6-0, 4-6, 6-7 (2) as Tarleton clinched the winning fourth point. The teams decided to play the last two courts out. Tuells won the No. 5 court as she beat Clara Sobius by set scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Mukhutdinova fought through three sets with the Texans' Boisson, defeating her at the No. 3 spot by set scores of 4-6, 6-4 and 6-4. UTSA fell to Tarleton State by 4-3 on Friday afternoon.
The Roadrunners fall to a 4-3 record, while Tarleton State improves to a 3-2 record.
