UTSA sees six game win streak snapped, loses 11-4

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA baseball saw their six-game win streak snapped Saturday afternoon, losing to the Southern Jaguars in the second game of the weekend series, 11-4.

Austin Ochoa and freshman outfielder Isaiah Walker lead the offense for UTSA on the day. Both hit their first homerun of the season (in Walker's case, first of his career). Ochoa belted a two-run homer out in the bottom of the second while Walker hit his solo shot in the bottom of the fourth.

UTSA used four pitchers in the game, starting with Ulises Quiroga. The sophomore went for 4.1 innings giving up six hits and five runs while striking out three. UTSA then turned to Simon Miller and got 1.2 innings of work from the sophomore righty. Miller allowed only one hit and one run while striking out two. After Miller's day was done, freshman Ryan Beaird took the mound. Beaird also pitched for 1.2 innings and gave up two hits and four runs while striking out two. John Chomko closed things out for the Roadrunners, allowing one run in 1.1 innings.

The scoring began in the bottom on the first, as UTSA got on the board first. Shane Sirdashney doubled down the leftfield line to plate Chase Keng to put UTSA up 1-0.

Southern struck back in the top of the second. After Jalon Mack drew a walk, two at-bats later, Zavier Moore smoked a two-run homer to left field to give the Jaguars a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the second, UTSA saw Kody Darcy reach on an error and then saw third baseman Austin Ochoa go yard as he launched a two-run homer to put UTSA back in the lead, 3-2.

Southern earned two runs in the top of the fourth off of a Rollon single to left field.

UTSA earned their last run of the game in the bottom of the fourth as Walker's solo shot tied the game back up at four apiece.

However, Southern would then add seven runs over the remaining five innings to put the game out of reach and hand UTSA its first loss in 12 days.
