SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's basketball will return to action with its non-conference finale, hosting Dallas Christian College on Monday at 7 p.m. Admission is free and the game will be broadcast live on CUSA TV and Ticket 760 AM.
UTSA (6-7, 0-1 Conference USA) will be facing Dallas Christian (1-3) in a game on Monday night that replaced UTSA's scheduled tilt with Our Lady of the Lake. The game with OLLU was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns in the OLLU program on Dec. 22. The contest will serve as an exhibition for Dallas Christian, who has played 13 early-season exhibitions, including four against Division I foes (Texas A&M, Tarleton, Northwestern State and UIW), sandwiched around the first four games of the year for the Crusaders. DCC played UIW on Sunday, falling 90-45.
The Roadrunners are breaking from their conference schedule for the contest with the Crusaders. UTSA had two of its three contests postponed or cancelled over the last two weeks, including its originally scheduled league lid-lifter at Middle Tennessee on Dec. 30. UTSA opened its league schedule on Saturday at preseason league favorite UAB, traveling back to San Antonio on Saturday night following the game.
The Roadrunners have averaged 67.3 points, 39.2 rebounds, 10.9 assists, 6.3 steals and 2.8 blocks per game as a team. UTSA has shot 37.5 percent as a team and 26.1 percent from 3-point range, holding foes to a 45.5 percent clip from the field and a 34.6 percent mark from 3-point distance.
Junior Dhieu Deing leads the team with 15.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Junior center Jacob Germany, coming off a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds at UAB on Saturday, averages 14.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Jordan Ivy-Curry averages 13.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, while senior forward Cedrick Alley Jr. averages 9.4 points and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds per game.
Dallas Christian (1-3) lost at UIW on Sunday evening, 90-45. The Crusaders in their division, have a win over Ozark Christian college, falling vs. Paul Quinn, Manhattan Christian and Champion Christian. DCC lost at Texas A&M on Dec. 27, 102-52, at Northwestern State 89-67 on Dec. 11 and 84-65 at Tarleton State on Dec. 7.
In their four countable games in 2021-22, DCC has averaged 71.8 points, 37 rebounds, 15.2 assists, 9.8 steals and 2.8 blocks per game as a team, shooting 42.7 percent and 28.0 percent from range. Foes are shooting 41.8 percent and 32.4 percent from 3-point distance.
Nick Erves leads the team with 16.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Jarius Allen averages 11.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, while Jalen Perez sports 10.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
This marks the first all-time meeting between the two schools.
