Schneider works clean sheet in exhibition draw at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Goalkeeper Jil Schneider worked a clean sheet to highlight a 0-0 exhibition draw for UTSA soccer at Texas State, on Thursday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

"Since our exhibition at UIW, we've been focusing all week on our team defending," UTSA head coach Derek Pittman said. "Our goal is to always keep our opponents from getting into a good rhythm offensively and we did that tonight. I was really proud of our athletes for executing what we worked on since the UIW game, limiting Texas State's opportunities and earning a shutout was fantastic. It was nice to face a quality opponent like Texas State, which will give us some good film. They tested us in some areas and showed us some things we can improve. We were able to play 24 of our players tonight, which was also a big thing to get as many people minutes as possible.

"We look forward to closing out our preseason with our last exhibition game at home on Sunday evening vs St. Mary's."

UTSA posted a draw in its second exhibition tune-up of the 2021 preseason, after earning a 3-1 win on Saturday at UIW. The Roadrunners will wrap up their preseason schedule with a home matchup with St. Mary's on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Park West Athletics Complex.

The Roadrunners controlled the game throughout, owning a 16-5 margin in shots, including a 9-1 advantage in efforts in the first half. UTSA had a goal disallowed in the first half after a foul was called and forced four saves from TXST in each half.

Schneider was tested with a shot on goal just twice, earning both saves in the second half.
