CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Joao Ceolin (Palotina, Brazil) won his 13th singles match of the year but UTSA men's tennis - the No. 4 seed - fell at No. 5 seed Charlotte in the Conference USA Championship quarterfinals, on Friday at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
UTSA (13-8) finishes the year with wins in 13 of 21 matches in an abbreviated 2021 season that started in January.
The Roadrunners earned three points in the narrow loss to Charlotte, getting the doubles point from Javier Gonzalez (San Fernando, Chile) and Garrett Skelly (The Woodlands, Texas), and Ceolin and Slava Gulin (Moscow, Russia).
Ceolin, ranked No. 106 in singles, picked up a court 2 win, 7-5, 6-4. Gulin won on court 3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
