DALLAS -- UTSA men's tennis won singles matches on each of the first three courts but Portland edged the Roadrunners 4-3 on Sunday at the SMU Tennis Complex.
"Today was a tough, hard-fought match," UTSA head coach Sergey Avedeyv said. "We got much better over the last week. It came down to a doubles point and we had our chances there too. We've still have a few pieces we're working on getting together and are looking forward to a good week of practice."
UTSA (0-2) fell to Portland (3-1) as the Pilots claimed the doubles point and won courts four, five and six to earn the win.
UTSA got wins from Kai Bretibach (Kaarst, Germany), 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, Juri Reckow (Hamburg, Germany) 7-6, 7-6 and Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru), 7-6, 7-6.
UTSA also competed Javier Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru), Javier Gonzalez (San Fernando, Chile) and Alan Sanson (Santiago, Chile) in singles. Freshman Joao Alcantnra (Santos, Brazil) teamed with Sebastian Rodriguez, with Breitbach and Patrick Poestinger (Ennsdorf, Austria), and Reckow and Gonzalez forming doubles teams.
UTSA will return to action on Sunday, traveling to face Louisiana-Lafayette in Lafayette, La., at 11 a.m.
