Duo of Omoworare, McCain reach semifinals in fall opener

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Sophomore Sophie Omoworare and freshman Keegan McCain opened UTSA women's tennis fall slate by landing in the semifinals at the Contender CrossFit Islander Invitational this past weekend.
 
In their first match as a duo, they defeated Trinity's sister team of Mary and Zoe Kaffen 6-2 in the opening round. The Roadrunner pair finished fourth after a 6-3 setback to Rice and a 6-2 loss to Abilene Christian.
 
Senior Diya Menon and sophomore Catalina Cabrique fell 6-4 in a hard-fought set versus Abilene Christian but battled back to a fifth-place finish with consecutive victories by scores of 6-4 and 6-3 over teams from UTRGV.
 
All four competed in singles action with  McCain overcoming a first-round defeat to finish fifth with two consecutive straight-set wins.
 
The Roadrunners compete Sept. 27 through 29 in split-squad action at the Rice Invitational and SMU Invitational.
