UTSA to continue outdoor campaign Saturday at Alumni Muster

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track and field teams will continue their outdoor season on Saturday, April 27, when they travel to College Station to compete in the Alumni Muster at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
 
Making their second trip to Aggieland in the last three weeks, the Roadrunners will line up against Houston, North Texas, Stephen F. Austin, host Texas A&M and UT Arlington. Field events are scheduled to get underway at 12:30 p.m. and running events will start at 5 p.m.
 
The Roadrunners turned in 17 top-three finishes in their last outing at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight last weekend in Houston. 
 
Vasha Sheriff paced the men by winning the 400 meters in a season-best time of 46.94. The senior also ran the second leg along with Chris Rosales, Luca Chatham and Andrew Pirog on the victorious 4x400m relay team that clocked a season-best 3:14.08.
 
The women were led by a trio of runner-up performances from Olivia Esemena, who clocked a 24.33 in the 200m, Darionne Gibson, who timed 55.16 in the 400m, and Caroline Bellows, who cleared 3.72m (12-2 ½) in the pole vault.
 
With the Conference USA Outdoor Championships just two weeks away, UTSA enters this weekend with 16 marks that rank in the top five on the league's latest performance list.
 
The men own 10 top-five marks, led by Pirog in the 400m hurdles. The junior from San Antonio bettered his previous season best with a 52.45 at last week's J. Fred Duckett Twilight, which keeps him atop the conference list. 
 
Meanwhile, Chatham ranks second in the 800m with a 1:50.11 clocking from the J. Fred Duckett Twilight, Patrick Prince stands second in the 110m hurdles with his winning time of 13.98 at the UTSA Invitational and Jake McDaniel owns the second-highest point total in the decathlon with the 6,648 he registered in winning the Roadrunner Invitational.
 
Andre Douglas is armed with the third-best triple jump (15.44m/50-8) in the conference, while Vincent Perez is third in the hammer (59.46m/195-1) and fifth in the discus (47.26m/155-1). McDaniel and Davante Edwards rank fourth (2.05m/6-8 ¾) and fifth (2.04m/6-8 ¼), respectively, in the high jump and the 4x400m relay is fifth (3:14.08). 
 
The women have six marks that rank in the top five, including a pair of league leaders. All-American Danielle Spence tops the circuit and ranks 11th nationally in the triple jump with her school-record leap of 13.36m (43-10) posted in winning the Roadrunner Invitational. Orla Brothers continues to pace C-USA in the 400m hurdles with her 1:00.12 clocking from the UTSA Invitational.
 
Bellows stands second in the pole vault with her personal-best clearance of 3.88m (12-8 ¾) in winning the Texas A&M Invitational. Esemena owns the third-fastest time in the 100m (11.65) and Gabriyella Torres boasts the third-best heptathlon point total with 5,001, while Maia Campbell currently ranks fifth in the shot put (14.61m (47-11 ¼).
